Boca Raton Car Accident On I-95 Kills Two

BOCA RATON, FLORIDA — A multi - car accident earlier this week morning killed two people, injured one and is believed to be responsible for another pile-up, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. 19 year old Daniela Torres of Boca Raton was northbound on I-95 on her way home from work at a restaurant in Fort Lauderdale when she changed lanes and rear-ended a slower-moving vehicle occupied by three people. That vehicle was pushed onto the shoulder and rolled over and its driver and front-seat passenger were ejected from the car. The front seat passenger, a Pompano Beach resident, was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to Delray Beach Community Medical center, where he too was pronounced dead.

Calvin Braggs, the back seat passenger was also transported to Delray Community Medical Center for emergency medical treatment.

Torres, who was not injured, was interviewed by troopers at the scene and picked up by her father.

As work crews cleaned up after the fatal crash, three other vehicles were involved in at least one secondary crash, according to Lt. Tim Frith of the Florida Highway Patrol. No one was injured in that accident.

The cause of the fatal crash is believed to be Torres' lane change, Frith said.

FHP said the names of the two people killed are being withheld until their families have been notified.

North Florida Truck Accident Leaves Two Seriously Injured In I-10 Crash

Jackson County, Florida - 63 year old Lillie Conyers of Crestview, Florida was seriously injured in a truck accident on I-10 Monday morning in Jackson County.

Also injured was 39 year old James Conyers, also of Crestview.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Lillie Conyers was driving westbound on Interstate 10 and struck a semi that had overturned in front of her. The Conyers were transported to the Jackson Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The 2006 tractor-trailer had also been traveling westbound on I-10 when it left the roadway. The truck driver, 29 year old Michael Dufur of Ocala, Florida, over-corrected causing the truck to overturn blocking all of the westbound lanes of I-10.

Dufur and his passenger 36 year old Guertho Lemorin of Tampa, Florida, received only minor injuries in the crash.

Too often, truck drivers like Dufur are pressured by the trucking companies they work for to drive longer hours than Federal Regulations allow. When that happens, truck drivers are forced to drive 80,000 pound tractor trailers on our roadways while they are fatigued and, at times, inattentive. Fatigue one of the most common causes of truck accidents.

Fort Lauderdale - Truck Accident Causes Fuel Spill

Oakland Park, Florida - A truck accident yesterday resulted in the closing of the exit ramp on southbound Interstate 95 at Oakland Park Boulevard yesterday because of a diesel fuel spill.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating to determine what caused a tractor trailer to jack-knife on the I-95 ramp, although no injuries were reported.

While this tractor-trailer accident was not an "injury crash", most do result in catastrophic injury or death. This is primarily because these large commercial semi trucks can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds. That is often 20 to 30 times heavier than the passenger car involved in the collision. A typical passenger car weighing approximately 3000 pounds is just no match for one of these eighteen wheelers or "big rigs".

Approximately 400,000 large truck accidents occur in the U.S each year. The Miami personal injury lawyers at our law firm handle serious injury and wrongful death cases arising out of truck accidents throughout the state of Florida.

Truck accident cases are more difficult to litigate than the average car accident case. Indeed, there are State and Federal laws which regulate the trucking industry.

Alligator Alley Crash Leaves Woman Dead And Boy Critical

Broward County, Florida - One woman is dead and a 9-year-old boy is in critical condition with life threatening injuries following a violent car accident on Alligator Alley Friday morning.

Two others were trapped inside of a Chevrolet Suburban that flipped over onto the shoulder on Interstate 75 near mile marker 31 according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.

The identities of the victims were not released.

The boy was ejected from the truck on impact, while the other three occupants were trapped in the SUV. According to Sgt. Mark Wysocky, a spokesman for Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

It appeared none in the SUV wore seat belts.

The survivors were all airlifted to area hospitals. The boy is in ''very critical condition,'' Wysocky said.

Alligator Alley is know to be one of the most dangerous roads in Florida. It has more than its share of motor vehicle accidents. For more on dangerous roads and locations, read my earlier post Florida Truck Accidents Among Most Frequent In The US.

Fort Lauderdale - Truck Accident Prompted Police To Appeal To The Public For Assistance

Ft Lauderdale, Florida - 26 year old Ashley Vaden, a cosmetologist, and 41 year old Duane Plouffe, a Navy Seal were killed on April 19 when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by two vehicles -- one of them a tractor-trailer -- on Interstate 95 near Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.

The drivers who hit them fled the scene.

That crash was just one of four unsolved, fatal hit-and-run accidents to occurr in Broward County since February. Florida Highway Patrol investigators together with Some of the surviving relatives of the hit-and-run victims on Wednesday asked the public for help.

''You aren't suppose to bury your children. It's just not suppose to be that way,'' said Vaden's father, Michael Vaden, with tears in his eyes. ``In our case, there wasn't much to bury.''

The recent spike in hit-and-run accidents has law enforcement very concerned according to FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky. ''It seems like every other day there is another hit-and-run,'' he said.

According to FHP, the four hit-and-run crashes under investigation can be summarized as follows:

• On April 19, Vaden and Plouffe -- who were northbound on I-95 on a motorcycle -- were hit by a small white car. Vaden and Plouffe were thrown off the bike and then hit by another vehicle. Vaden was fatally run over by a tractor-trailer whose driver failed to stop. Police are looking for the tractor-trailer and the small white vehicle.

• On Feb. 15, Larry Grampa hit a vehicle while driving his motorcycle southbound on I-95 in Dania Beach and was thrown to the roadway. As he tried to get up, he was hit by another car and killed. That vehicle fled the scene, but police found a piece of the car at the scene.

• On April 30, John Deeley and his passenger, Johnny Turner, were westbound on I-75 near mile marker 30. Deeley swerved to avoid a vehicle that was stopped in the left lane, overturned and went into a canal. Both were killed in the accident. Police are looking for the vehicle left in the road.

• On March 2, 19-year-old Stevie Nicole Painter was driving on I-95 after leaving the Best Buy store in Fort Lauderdale where she worked when she was cut off by another car. She lost control of her vehicle near the Interstate 595 exit ramp just north of Davie Boulevard. Her car flipped over, struck a large sign post and was killed.

Painter, a student, wanted to become a veterinarian. Her family has'nt been the same since the crash.

''The pain we are experiencing now is as fresh as the day of the accident,'' said Todd Dupell, Painter's uncle. ``The fact that someone saw something and hasn't said anything breaks my spirit.''

"Someone out there knows something.''

While law enforcement officers continue to investigate these fatal motor vehicle accidents, the victims' families are finding it difficult to move on.

Vaden's family created a memorial in their home with pictures, memorabilia and flowers.

They burned into ashes the few remains that were left. The only thing intact was a lock of her golden-blond hair.

''I raised my kids to have a good life,'' Michael Vaden said. ``It breaks my heart that my family is suffering so much.''

Car Accident / Motorcycle Accident - Motorcyclist Was Hit Then Run Over In Pembroke Pines, Florida

Pembroke Pines, Florida - A terrible automobile accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Wednesday. According to Pines police, Ricardo F. DeCastro, 53, of South Miami was riding a motorcycle when he was rear-ended by a car, thrown from his bike and then run over in Pembroke Pines yesterday.

DeCastro was killed in the accident.

Investigators say that at about 5:20 p.m., the motorcycle, a black 2007 Suzuki, was headed west on Pines Boulevard in the outside lane.

Larry Constante Beltran, 34, of Miami was behind him traveling in the same direction in a black 1998 Honda Civic. Beltran was following too closely and rear-ended the motorcycle, catapulting DeCastro from the bike onto the street.

After the crash, the motorcycle, slammed into the back of a Chevy pickup truck driven by Jose Miguel Sanchez, 33, of Tamarac.

Beltran continued going forward and ran over the DeCastro before stopping.

The DeCastro was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where he ultimately died.

No one else was injured in the motor vehicle accident.

The car accident remains under investigation. Anyone having any information about the crash is asked to call Pines police at 954-431-2200, e-mail Tips@ppines.com or call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

Polk County, Florida - Fatal Truck Accident Spurs Family to Seek Action

DAVENPORT - The mother and father of a young woman who was killed in a truck accident on U.S. 27 earlier this year were among the more than 30 Polk County residents, law enforcement officials, state highway planners and county leaders who met to form a task force that will focus on making US 27 safer.

"I would gladly give everything I have not to be here," Russell Hurd told the group Tuesday night at Polk Outpost 27, a visitors' center just south of Interstate 4 on US 27, the road some locals refer to as "Bloody 27."

26 year old Heather Hurd lost her life when an inattentive (or sleeping) tractor-trailer driver rear ended several cars and another truck that were stopped at a red light at U.S. 27 and Sand Mine Road.

Two people were killed and several others were injured in the accident.

"I don't want any family to feel what my wife and I feel," Hurd said. "I want them to fix what's wrong with those 15 miles of the highway."

Hurd was referring to the heavily traveled section of US 27 between Haines City and the Polk/Lake county line to the north.

The meeting was hosted by the Polk Transportation Planning Organization and the Florida Department of Transportation and was intended to be the organizational meeting for a task force of residents and officials created to identify immediate or short-term solutions to the highway's problems.

While long-range plans are already on the table, they are not expected to be in place for several years.

Orlando, Fla - Car Accident Leaves 2-Year-Old Dead

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A terrible automobile accident killed a 2-year-old boy in Orange County on Saturday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck crashed into the rear of the car in which the little boy was a passenger at the intersection of State Road 50 and Lake Pickett Road.

2-year-old Eric Brauns was killed on impact.

Investigators said the driver of the truck may have fallen asleep at the wheel. SR-50 was closed for several hours after the crash.

Tragedies like this are, unfortunately, far too common and at the same time, almost always preventable. It is irresponsible and careless for a driver to remain behind the wheel of a motor vehicle while fatigued.

The Florida injury lawyers at Hannon & Boyers are experienced in the litigation and trial of catastrophic auto accidents and wrongful death cases and work tirelessly to hold irresponsible individuals accountable for the harm they cause. Hannon & Boyers handles cases throughout the state of Florida.

Florida - Truck Accident in Cocoa leaves one dead

Brevard County, Florida — According to the driver involved in an early morning, fatal truck accident yesterday in Cocoa, Florida, a white truck sideswiped his car.

Lt. Channing Taylor of the Florida Highway Patrol said that 42 year old Elbert McClary was southbound on Clearlake Road when his SUV ran into a canal and over-turned at Jackson Road in Cocoa yesterday.

His passenger, 30 year old Corah Wells, also of Cocoa was killed in the accident.

Authorities are still investigating the timeline of the automobile accident which is still a mystery.

Police were not called until “well after 6 a.m.,” Taylor said. But McClary told Highway Patrol troopers investigating the truck accident that the crash happened several hours before that time.

The investigation as to what time the fatal truck wreck actually occurred is ongoing and charges may yet be filed said FHP Sgt. Kim Miller.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Turnpike Rollover Car Accident Injures Man Near Commercial Boulevard

Tamarac, Florida - A rollover car accident in the southbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike left a 74 year old Davie man in critical condition.

According to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Roger Reyes, Luis Cease was airlifted by Fire Rescue to Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale after his car rolled over and crashed into a wall.

The automobile accident occurred in the late afternoon when William Thompson, 54, of Miami Beach, attempted to change lanes near the West Commercial Boulevard exit and veered too close to Cease's 2003 Hyundai. When Cease tried to avoid a collision, his car rolled over and struck a wall.

The Turnpike exit at Commercial Boulevard along with both southbound and northbound lanes were closed for a time to make room for the Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue helicopter to land, Reyes said.

While tragedies like this are very often the result of careless driving on our highways - a growing problem that effects too many families, sometimes an automobile rolls over due to a defective design.

Tractor Trailer Accident Kills Father & Son Working on Florida Turnpike in Sumter County, Florida

WILDWOOD FLORIDA - A semi tractor-trailer accident killed a father and son who were working on the Florida Turnpike this morning in Sumter County as they were making repairs to the guardrails just North of Highway 301.

The victims, Luis F. Jimenez, 49, and his son Edward Jimenez, 24 were killed just after 10:30am when a car and a tractor-trailer collided sending the car over the guardrail according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Litigating cases involving truck accidents is more complex than litigating automobile accident cases and requires knowledge of the Federal trucking laws as well as timely investigation.

Florida injury lawyers would look to hold the negligent driver responsible for the tragic death of this father and son by bringing a wrongful death action. In addition, they would investigate to determine whether or not adequate safety proceedures were in place for the road work being performed.

According to turnpike officials, the father and son were working on the guardrail with one other worker who was not identified.

The accident closed the northbound lanes of the turnpike for several hours between Highway 301 and I-75 which spans about 3 miles.

Florida - Personal Injury Lawyer Sues Hulk Hogan For Brain Damage And Other Injuries Suffered in Son's Car Accident

Central Florida - Florida personal injury lawyers filed a lawsuit on behalf of John Graziano, who suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in an automobile accident last August.

The defendants - wrestling superstar, Hulk Hogan and his family. Graziano's parents are suing Hogan under Florida's "Dangerous Instrumentality Doctrine" which holds the owner of an automobile vicariously responsible for the negligent operation of that vehicle.

Experienced Florida personal injury lawyers know how to use Florida's laws to achieve substantial compensation for their seriously injured clients.

Hogan's son, Nick Bollea, was driving a car registered in his father's name at the time of the crash.

The August 2007 auto accident (see my post on March 13th about this crash) left Bollea's friend, Graziano with permanent brain damage and other serious injuries that will require daily nursing care for the rest of his life.

Bollea faces charges of reckless driving involving serious bodily injury. He will be tried on these charges next month.

The Graziano family filed a lawsuit against Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea), his wife Linda and son Nick, charging them with negligence.

Head-On Collision Kills 3 on I-95 in Delray Beach, Florida

DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA — A serious automobile accident left three people dead and two others injured Sunday when a car traveling South in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 crashed head on into another vehicle in Palm Beach County, Florida. The fatal auto accident also contributed to two other injury wrecks. Several people injured in the crash were sent to Delray Medical Center for emergency medical treatment including one police officer.

The fatal accident between a white Mercedes and a black Pontiac occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m. just south of Atlantic Avenue.

According to police, Boris Rapoport of Quebec was driving the Mercedes when it struck the Pontiac which was being driven by North Lauderdale resident, Kenneth Richard Jenkins, 25.

Rapoport and two others who were in the backseat of the Mercedes, 79 year old Renee Rapoport, of Quebec, and 83 yeaqr old Robert S. Rutman, of Boca Raton, were killed in the crash. 69 year old Angelina Pauglica, of Quebec, who was also in the Mercedes, had surgery after being admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

According to Lt. Tim Frith of the Florida Highway Patrol, Jenkins was also taken to Delray Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Delray Beach police Sgt. Toby Rubin and 4 others sustained injuries when their cars collided while Rubin was chasing the wrong-way vehicle.

Investigators said that after the head-on collision, a white Honda was hit by a blue Hyundai trying to avoid the wrecked automobiles, police said. Edward Duggan (the driver of the Honda), and his wife, Christina of Short Hills, N.J. were heading north to Palm Beach International Airport when their car was hit. The Duggans were not seriously injured and were not hospitalized.

Investigators said the driver of the blue Hyundai, 35 year old Lake Worth resident, LaShawn Antoinette Brown, also avoided serious injury.

According to her mother, Rosetta Brown, Brown was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach later that day with strong neck and back pain.

Police Accident Investigation Photos Released in Bollea Car Crash

Clearwater, Florida - Law enforcement released crash scene photographs from their investigation into the automobile accident involving Nick Bollea (Hulk Hogan's son) and John Graziano. Graziano, who was seriously injured in the acccident and sustained severe brain damage, is depicted in some of the photographs while in the hospital.

The lawyer for the Graziano family has asked the media to refrain from releasing some of the photographs which he says are particularly gory and troubling.

The Florida personal injury attorneys at our law firm always seek to protect the privacy of our clients and their families while working tirelessly to achieve substantial compensation they deserve. When a loved one has suffered catastrophic injuries, the family shouldn't have to worry about anything except making sure he or she is receiving the medical attention they need.

Typically when the police investigate a severe traffic accident, officers take photos of the vehicles at the scene. It is not as common for them to take photos of the victims in the hospital, but it does happen when they believe it is necessary in order to complete their investigation.

A spokesperson for Tampa Bay's Channel 10 News said that "some of the photos of Graziano are so horrific we can't show them on TV...". His family is concerned that they will show up on the Internet.

Lawyers representing the Graziano family criticized the Bollea family for staging what they called a “Valentine's Day publicity stunt.“ The entire family except for Terry Bollea (Hulk Hogan) went to visit Graziano in the hospital and called a news conference.

Florida Program Aims to Reduce Number of Teen Car Accidents

Davie, Florida - Teenagers and automobiles are often a deadly combination. In fact teens are involved in a disproportionate share of automobile accidents often leaving victims with catastrophic injuries such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and burn injury. That is something that Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida is striving to change with a program that will lead to additional certified drivers ed instructors across the state.

Our experienced team of Florida injury attorneys often represent people who were seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents all over the state of Florida. Our trial lawyers work tirelessly to hold negligent drivers and their insurance companies accountable for the harm they cause. We hope that our hard work will someday help to prevent accidents and, in turn, injuries. It is encouraging to see an innovative program that will provide increased training for our youngest drivers. This program may eventually lead to a reduction in the number of injuries and fatalities on our roads. That is one impact on our highways we would all welcome.

The problem - a shortage of driver education courses in Florida schools. This shortage has grown as public school coaches are lost to retirement and fewer young coaches are becoming certified to teach driver education. The result is that drivers ed classes are no longer a mainstay in our schools.

Part of the problem has been that the only two places in the state teachers could go for certification were the University of Florida in Gainesville and the University of South Florida in Tampa. That made it difficult for teachers in other parts of the state to obtain the necessary training.

The NSU program will be available to teachers nationwide online. The program was developed by NSU in collaboration with Broward public schools and under the auspices of the Florida Department of Education. The program is expected to comply with the requirements of most other states.

Driver ed classes are becoming more popular throughout Florida, thanks in part to the Dori Slosberg Foundation, organized by former state Representative Irv Slosberg, whose 15-year-old daughter, Dori, was killed in an automobile accident in 1996.

Since Dori died, Slosberg has been an advocate for traffic safety and driver ed classes. He has also lobbyed for legislation that would add $5 to every traffic ticket issued in the state.

That money would go to support driver education classes in schools. Slosberg estimates the surcharge would generate $14 million annually for the classes in Broward and Miami-Dade.

The new program at Nove is expected to make it easier, or at least more convenient for teachers to get certified.

Fatal Tour Bus Accident in Broward County, Florida Leaves One Woman Dead

Broward County, Florida - One woman was killed Sunday in a bus accident on the road to the Langerado Music Festival just North of I-75 (Alligator Alley).

A spokesperson from the Broward County Medical Examiner's office said that 36 year old Constance Leach of Clewiston, Florida, died from injuries she sustained in the crash.

According to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman, Sgt. Mark Wysocky, the accident occurred on Snake Road, a few miles north of Interstate 75 in Broward County when the pick up truck driven by Leach collided with a tour bus. The crash was reported in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Our Florida injury lawyers have represented many families whose loved ones were seriously injured or killed in charter bus accidents across the state of Florida. Through our investigation of many of these crashes, we have discovered that bus drivers are often hired and placed behind the wheel of these huge vehicles without adequate training or experience. Too often, tour bus drivers are pushing the limits of safe operation in order to deliver passengers to their destination earlier. Lives are lost or forever changed when negligent charter operators put profits ahead of people by hiring unqualified drivers and failing to adequately train them.

Leach, a stay at home mom, leaves behind her four children and two grandsons, according to her sister, Tammy Leach.

Miami, Florida Truck Accident: Tractor-Trailor Goes Head-On With a Car and Shuts Down Krome Avenue

Miami, Florida - An 18-wheeler and a car met in a head-on collision Wednesday, shutting down Krome Avenue near SW 88th Street (Kendall Drive). The March 5, 2008 tractor-trailer wreck sent one person to the hospital on air rescue. The rescue helicopter dispatched by the Miami-Dade Fire Department had to land on the street.

Hazmat teams were also sent to the accident scene to clean up the resulting fuel spill.

According to traffic statistics, the injuries sustained in truck accidents, especially those involving huge semi tractor-trailors, are generally more serious in nature than injuries sustained in car accidents. One reason for this is because these big rigs typically weigh as much as 80,000 lbs when fully loaded. That's several tons heavier than the average passenger car.

Some of the many catastrophic injuries typically resulting from a truck accident include:
- traumatic brain injury,
- head injuries,
- brain damage,
- burn injuries,
- quadriplegia,
- paraplegia,
- spinal cord injuries,
- severe orthopedic injuries,
- coma, and
- death

Florida woman killed in car accident on US 41

Florida - Automobile accidents are one of the most common causes of death and serious injury in the United States. Not surprisingly, many Florida motorists are seriously injured or killed each year in motor vehicle collisions.

Too often, these deadly car accidents are caused by hit and run drivers who flee the scene before law enforcement officers arrive. This sometimes occurs because they are intoxicated or uninsured.

A hit and run accident left Pam Pafford, a 33 year old Florida woman, dead and her son critically injured on US Highway 41. The accident occurred on February 18, 2008 in Columbia County, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), Pamela A. Pafford, of Lake City, Florida was traveling northbound on US 41 just north of Lake City at approximately 3 p.m. Michael Tyrone Philpot, 24, also of Lake City was traveling southbound when he crossed the center line into the northbound lane.

The left front of Philpot's vehicle struck the left front of Pafford's Honda Civic, which then spun across the northbound shoulder and ended up in a ditch. Pafford and her seven-year-old son, Jordan Gibbons, were air lifted to Shands Medical Center at the University of Florida, where she ultimately died from her injuries.

Philpot left his vehicle and fled into the nearby woods, according to CCSO. FHP initially believed the accident was a random head-on collision, but they later learned that Philpot and Pafford knew each other. In May of 2007, Philpot was released from the Florida Department of Corrections where he served a prison sentence for false imprisonment and aggravated assault of Pafford, according to CCSO.

Columbia County, Florida Truck Accident: Tractor-Trailer Wreck and Dislodged Side Saddle Fuel Tank Cause Vehicle Fire on I-10

Columbia County, Florida - An accident involving the collision of two semi trucks ignited a fire that engulfed one semi on I-10 in Columbia County early Tuesday. FHP Investigating Fatal I-75 Semi Truck Accident in Ocala, Florida

OCALA - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal truck accident that took place on the northbound ramp of I-75 at State Road 40 on Sunday.

The accident occurred when a van struck a semi tractor trailer, which was parked on the side of the road but was partially blocking the on-ramp. After the initial impact, the van collided with another tractor-trailer. The van driver was killed.

FHP may decide to file criminal charges against the truck driver but won't know until additional witnesses are interviewed and the vehicles have been inspected.

Neither Richard E. Johnson of Ocala, the driver of the parked truck, nor the driver of the other truck driver, William T. Luke, of Hawkinsville, Ga. were hurt.

Tony Rodriguez, a spokes person for F & R Trucking, the company that employs Johnson, said the truck was headed to Atlanta to pick up freight.

According to the accident report, the accident occurred at 4:40 p.m. when James J. Harding drove a 1996 Dodge van onto the northbound ramp, preparing to merge with traffic that was northbound on I-75. That's when he hit a 2001 Freightliner, whose driver's side wheels and a portion of the truck were blocking the lanes of travel on the ramp.

The van rear-ended the trailer and ended up in the path of a 2001 Peterbilt that was hauling cars.

The 42 year old Harding was thrown from the van onto the median of I-75 and was pronounced dead at the scene. The traffic report indicates that Harding was not wearing a seat belt.

Troopers said Johnson parked his semi truck along the roadway in order to fill out his logbook at the start of his shift.

FHP Captain Jeff Succi said that there was no pattern to the fatal crashes and no specific location where they occurred.

Captain Succi was reminded of 2003 which was a particularly bad year for traffic homicides. In that year, 15 people were killed in vehicle crashes within the county during the month of February. Traffic related fatalities reached a record 119 that year.

Succi said, drivers and passengers should always wear seat belts because they can reduce the severity of injuries in the event of an accident. He also cautioned that drivers should avoid being in a hurry.

Motorists Injured When Six Auto Accidents Occur on I-95 in Brevard County, Florida Construction Zone

Brevard County - Spokespersons for a road construction company denied that ongoing road construction was to blame for any of the six, separate motor vehicle accidents that occurred early Monday morning in or near a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 95 that is the subject of a major road widening construction project.

Six auto accidents, including one involving an overturned semi tractor-trailer truck, occurred Monday on I-95 in Brevard during rush hour. Several motorists were injured.

The first two accidents occurred just south of the construction zone - a stretch of I-95 spanning about 10 miles from Fiske Boulevard in Rockledge to State Road 528 in Cocoa which is being widened from four lanes to six.

The first crash was reported after 3 a.m. at mile marker 195, just south of Fiske. The right northbound lane still was blocked at 6:30 a.m. Bottle-necking and backup at that wreck may have contributed to cause a second crash, this one a head-on collision, occurring approximately 20 minutes later near the Viera Boulevard overpass. That crash resulted in injury to two people who were rushed to the hospital for emergency medical treatment.
